Obituary

Evans, GA – Mr. Stanley “Stan” Merritt, 63, beloved husband of Meril Merritt, entered into rest on Thursday, September 8, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2016 in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Rev. Steve Murell and Rev. Chip Reeves officiating. Burial will be private.

Stan was one of the founding partners of D’Antignac and Merritt Heating and Air Conditioning,Inc in 1992 along with his best friend and partner Bobby D’Antignac. His employees, colleagues and customers were always a large part of why he looked forward to each and every day. He loved his “family” at D’Antignac and Merritt. His absolute greatest joy in life was spending peaceful mornings or quiet evenings boating, fishing or golfing. He will be missed dearly by his precious companions, Molly and Thomas who were always waiting on the porch to greet him and welcome him home. He is remembered as a gentle, compassionate “Unc” to his nieces and nephews ready to watch a soccer game or be involved in their lives at a moment’s notice. Children always brought a smile to his face and he would make sure that his family knew he was there for them.

Stan is survived by the love of his life and wife of 38 years, Meril Smith Merritt. His love was a steady, constant reminder of how much he cared for the simple things that really matter the most each day. Stan was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. He loved the Lord and his life reflected that in ways that made a difference to those who knew him. It took very few words to know what Stan had on his heart. In addition to his wife, Mr. Merritt is survived by his mother, Bernice Whitmire Merritt; his brothers, Don Merritt and David Merritt; his sisters-in-law, Carol Holden, Gayle Ardrey (Vince), and Elaine Smith (Roger); his nieces and nephews, Joshua Merritt, Jason Clark (Shonna), Nicole Eick (Carson), Stuart Holden, Breck Ardrey, and Hannah Ardrey; and his great-nieces, Ella Raley Eick and Mary Carson Eick.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Scott, Glenn Hubbard, James Harrison, Doug Wilson, and Ralph Kennedy.

If so desired memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Extension, Augusta, GA, 30909, or to the Columbia County Humane Society, 6100 Columbia Road, Grovetown, GA, 30813.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, September 11, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
