Alice M. (Dube) Sylvia, 76, of New Bedford died Sunday July 31, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Sylvia, Sr., who died on July 13, 2005.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late George and Cedea (Verville) Dube, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Mrs. Sylvia was formerly employed as a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Home.
She was very devoted to her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in church bingo and parish activities.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth J. Sylvia and his wife Cynthia of New Bedford, and Joseph F. Sylvia, Jr. and his girlfriend Wanda Spencer of Santa Fe, New Mexico; a daughter, Beatrice M. Watkins and her husband Russell of New Mexico; a brother, Joseph Dube and his wife Shirley of New Bedford; three sisters, Norma Moquin, and her husband Roland, of Florida, Rita Brown and her husband George, of Delaware, and Doris Dechais, and her husband Armand, of New Bedford; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Alice M. Sylvia, and sister of the late Blanche Dube, Roger Dube and George Dube.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday August 3, 2005 at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Tuesday August 2, 2005 from 4-7 PM.
