DIGHTON – Olive E. (Pontes) Mendoza of North Dighton, wife of over 53 years to Norman J. Mendoza Sr., died at Southeast Rehab in N. Easton on Sept. 4, 2016. She was 75.
Born and raised in Somerset and educated in Dighton, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Machado) Pontes. Olive was employed as a group leader in the accounts payable division of Foxboro Company for 20 years and a parishioner of St. Nicholas of Myra Church. Olive was a loving and caring person who was devoted to her family.
She is survived by two sons, Norman Mendoza, Jr. and his wife Melissa Mendoza of Hudson, NH, and Jeffrey Mendoza and Donna Wheeler of Pascoag, RI; four brothers, Virgil Pontes, Edward Pontes and Albert Pontes, all of N. Dighton, Gilbert Pontes of Assonet; three sisters, Jenny Andrade and Anita Marsella, both of N. Dighton, and Diane Centofanti of SC; and one grandchild, Mackenzie Mendoza. She was also the mother of the late Lisa Mendoza and sister of the late Joseph Machado, George Pontes, Madeline (Mary) DeCosta and Jean Beach.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton, MA on Friday September 9th at 8:45 a.m. followed be her funeral mass at St. Nicholas of Myra Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 8th from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
