Arthur W. Russell a life long Charlestown resident died at his home on July 28, 2005, following a lengthy illness. He was 76 years old.
Arthur grew up in Charlestown and attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and later graduated from Commerce High School in Boston in 1946. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and was discharged in 1947 as a Private First Class. In 1952, Arthur joined the Boston Police Department and served most of his career at Area 6 (South Boston) until his retirement in 1984. He then joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1985 and served as a Clerk at South Postal Annex & Central Square, Cambridge, until his retirement in 1995. Arthur is a member of Bunker Hill Counsel #62 K of C and was past Grand Knight.
Arthur is survived by his wife Nancy (Keegan). He is the devoted father of Maureen Hennessey and her husband Mark of Reading, Susan Ellis and her husband Glen of Malden and William Russell and his wife Bonnie of Billerica. He is the loving grandfather of nine grandchildren. He is the brother of retired Boston Police Superintendent Paul Russell and his wife Barbara of Marshfield and the late Dorothy Keating, Walter, Warren and Frederick Russell.
Arthur’s Funeral will be held at the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, on Monday, August 1, 2005, at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting Hours for Arthur will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2005, from 3 – 7 p.m. Interment is at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA.
