Edmund J. Saulnier, 90, formerly of Salem, NH and more recently of Derry, NH died Thursday, July 28, 2005 in the Haven Health Care Center, Derry following a long period of failing health. Mr. Saulnier was born August 7, 1914 in Methuen, MA, a son of the late Edmund O. and Robertina (LaJeunesse) Saulnier. At age 4, Edmund was a child prodigy concert violinist. He graduated from Tenney High School in Methuen. He worked as a welder in the Boston Shipyards during WWII. Following that, he worked in the Arlington Mills in Lawrence, MA. He was a resident of Salem from 1947 until 1999 when he moved to Derry. For close to 20 years, he was a well-known poultry farmer. He was a lifetime lover of horses. He retired after working 10 years as a custodian at Salem High School. Mr. Saulnier was a former member of Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Salem and a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertha D. (Reissman) Saulnier of Londonderry, NH, three sons, Robert E. and his wife Grace of E. Kingston, NH, Allan O. and his wife Madeline of Londonderry and Russell and his wife Vivian of Greenville, SC, six grandsons, Robert of Haverhill, MA, Mark A. and his wife Vickie of Wrightsville, NC, Michael A. and his wife Donna of Arlington, VA, Steven M. and his wife Judith of Londonderry, David and his wife Melody of Hamilton, MA and Eric and his wife Nicole of Carmel Valley, CA, three granddaughters, Karen Cabral and her husband Manuel of Pelham, NH, Laura Walker of Londonderry and Julie Gill and her husband Brian of Williamstown, MA, twenty great-grandchildren, a brother, Bishop Theophilos of Richford, VT, three nieces and several cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Marie D. Saulnier in 1995.
Following cremation, calling hours were held 6-8 PM Thursday, August 4th in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, August 5th at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial will be held in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Lowell, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Rockingham V.N.A., 137 Epping Rd., Exeter, NH 03833.
