Avis M. Hughes, 55, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry after a long courageous battle with Breast Cancer. She was born in Medford MA, on July 10, 1961. Avis was an avid sports fan. Avis loved all Boston teams, especially the Boston Bruins who she watched faithfully since she was a little girl. She worked in sales for many years in the electronic hardware distribution business. She loved reading, the beach, travel, Christmas with the family and “Therapy” with the girls, Patti, Karen, Suzie, Guylaine, and Debbie. Family was the most important thing to her.
She was predeceased by her father Billy Dean Martin and her sister Debbie Martignetti. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Mark Hughes, and son, Christopher Hughes who was her “LOML” (Love Of My Life) of Derry; her mother Marie Martin of Medford; her brother Wayne Martin and wife Nancy of New Jersey; her mother in law Nancy Hughes of Burlington, MA; her step mother Sue Martin of St. Louis, MO; her longtime friend Dotty Harrigan, who was like a 2nd mother to her; her very special niece Andrea Martignetti Nigro and husband Bryan of Wilmington, MA; her wonderful nephew David Martignetti and girlfriend Christina Hawkins of Weare; her extended family, brothers and sisters, Michael Martin, Paul Martin, Donna Samson, and Amanda Menne; sister in laws, Debra Hanna, Jean Parrish, Alison Edmondson and their husbands Rich Hanna, Paul Vozzella, and Jeff Edmondson respectively.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 6th from 4 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry.
