Obituary

Mr. Edwin Francis Mulligan, a resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Marie A. (Ballou) Mulligan, passed away at the Care One Wilmington Health Center on Thursday morning, August 25, 2016. He was 87 years old.
Born in Medford, Massachusetts, on April 17, 1929, he was the beloved son of the late James J. and Mary T. (Reedy) Mulligan. Edwin was a Korean War Army Veteran, entering the military on August 20, 1951, at Boston and receiving his honorable discharge on July 30, 1953, from Ft. Devens. While serving in the Army, Mr. Mulligan worked as a Radio Operator and attained the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for his exemplary service. Mr. Mulligan retired from the Bank of Boston after many years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed watching golf and playing tennis. He was a member of the VFW and former Secretary of the Medford Elks. He also was a volunteer for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving children; Maureen and her husband Francis Smith of Florida, Kathleen and her husband John Walsh of Reading, Edwin F. Mulligan, Jr. and his companion Debbie of Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, Maryellen Mulligan of Haverhill and Lawrence and his wife Kathleen Mulligan of Malden. Also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Ruth Reilly, Mary Raimondi, James J. Mulligan, Jr., Rt. Col. John L. Mulligan, USAF and Rev. Fr. Paul F. Mulligan, who passed away 10 hours before Edwin.
Edwin and his brother Fr. Paul’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated together in St. Cecilia Church, 55 Esty Street, Ashland on Monday, August 29, 2016, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 2 to 5 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
