TEWKSBURY – Mr. David B. Penney, age 65, a retired National Grid foreman, died peacefully at his Tewksbury home on Tuesday evening, August 16, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the loving husband of Mary A. (Walsh) Penney, who died in 2010.
David was born in Melrose in April 1951, one of seven children of the late William T. and Vestella F. (Salsman) Penney. He was raised in Saugus, where he graduated from Saugus High School with the class of 1969.
He served in the National Guard Reserves.
He retired from National Grid, formerly Boston Gas and KeySpan, where he began his career as an excavator, climbed his way up the ladder and retired as a foreman.
David loved music, and could spend hours discussing plots, twists, details and the stars of most any category of movie; he could recite any line from any movie if asked. David’s life, however, changed when his grandson and “best buddy” Dylan entered his life two years ago; Dylan became the sole focus and source of all joy in his life.
He leaves a son: David B. Penney Jr. of Windham, NH; a daughter: Katelyn Walsh Wiseheart, and her husband Justin, of Tewksbury; two grandsons: Dylan and Gavin; six siblings: Andrew T., and wife Pamela, Penney of WA; Barbara A., and husband Robert, Cassidy of NJ; William T. Jr., and wife Betty, Penney of NJ; Robert J., and wife Elizabeth, Penney of NJ; Janet H., and husband, David Fortin of FL; and Randy S., and wife Sue, Penney of RI; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours Thursday, Aug 18, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.
