Obituary

Marie (McMillian) MacKenzie, 93, of Anderson, died August 10, 2016 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus after an extended illness.

She was born in Brandsville, Mo, April 1, 1923 the daughter of A.B. and Nettie I. (Featherston) Dixon. She attended public schools of Springfield, MO then Miss Mores School in St. Louis, MO; Washington University, St. Louis, MO and received a B.S. in education from Anderson College, masters in Education at Ball State University in Muncie.

She attended Park Place Church of God where she was a Sunday school teacher, the pianist and the organist. She was a member of American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution the Kik-the-we-nund Chapter in Anderson, Kappa Delta Pi, Charissa Club, Historical Society of Kentucky and Southwest Missouri Genealogical Society.

During the Korean War, she lived in Kokwa, Japan, where her husband was stationed. She was a Red Cross volunteer and organist in the military chapel. She lived in Anderson from 1954 to 1995 where she was a teacher and librarian for Anderson Community Schools for 28 years before retiring in June of 1988.

She is survived by her sons, Gerry (Sharon) MacKenzie of Granite City, IL and Robert (Mary) MacKenzie of East Carondelet, IL; 4 grandchildren, Scott MacKenzie and Heather Hinson both of Edwardsville, IL ; Galen (Stephanie) MacKenzie of Granite City, IL and Allissa (Tony) Williams of Southern Indiana and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbridge G. MacKenzie Sr.; and a brother, Belvin Glenn McMillian.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Dr. David Markle officiating. Burial will take place later in East Maplewood Cemetery.

The visitation will be from 2:00 PM- 4:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to : Alzheimer's Association.
