TEWKSBURY: Claire M. (McClellan) Looney, age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for 43 years, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
She was the wife of James E. Looney, Sr. who died July 31, 1996.
Born in Cambridge on November 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James G. and Theresa (Sheahan) McClellan.
Mrs. Looney was raised in Cambridge.
She attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High & Latin in 1949. Following graduation, she attended Chandler School for Women, graduating in 1950.
Mrs. Looney resided in Tewksbury since 1962 and was a communicant of St. Williams Parish.
She was employed as a quality control manager by Mortgage Financial, Inc. of Tewksbury for the past 14 years.
Mrs. Looney was active in local affairs and was a former member of Tewksbury Board of Registrars, the Town Democratic Committee and the Tewksbury Taxpayers Association.
She enjoyed many activities especially spending time with her family, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by two daughters; former Tewksbury Selectmen, Ann M. Looney of Tewksbury and Maura T. Looney-Costigan and her husband James of Winthrop; three sons; Kevin M. Looney and his wife Dorothy (McIntire) of Indian Orchard, MA, James E. Looney, Jr. and his wife Karen (Simpson) of Dracut and Stephen M. Looney and his wife Sandra (Theriault) of Nashua, NH; seven grandchildren; Jocelyn Looney of Nashua, NH, Kate Looney of Tampa, FL, Allison Looney of Dracut, Matthew Looney of Washington, DC, Samuel Looney of Nashua, NH and Jay and Maeve Costigan both of Winthrop; two step grandchildren; Tanya and Jeff Samson both of Indian Orchard, MA; one great grandchild; Ashton McCardell of Nashua, NH; one sister-in-law; Sr. Ann Claire Looney, S.N.D. of Worcester; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Looney was the sister of the late James, Joseph and Robert McClellan.
Calling hours Wednesday, July 27th from 4-9 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Thursday, July 28th at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Retirement Fund, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938 are requested.
