Florence P. (Powel) Howard, 88, of Mattapoisett died Saturday July 23, 2005 unexpectedly at Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Buzzards Bay. She was the wife of the late Lewis E. Howard.
Born in Brescia, Italy, she lived in Buffalo, New York for most of her life, before moving to Mattapoisett 26 years ago.
She was a former member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Buffalo.
Mrs. Howard was formerly employed as a French teacher at the Buffalo Seminary.
She was a graduate of the Park School in Buffalo and the University of Buffalo. During World War II, she was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy serving as a communications specialist. She enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with her grandchildren. An avid reader, she was a supporter of the Mattapoisett Free Public Library.
Survivors include a daughter, Andree C. Howard and her spouse Liza Tobojka, of Mattapoisett; two sons, Paul G. Howard and his spouse Alice of Plympton, and David P. Howard of Scituate; and six grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Pierre Powel, Denis Powel, and Enid Powel.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday July 30, 2005 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Mattapoisett Library Trust, Inc., P.O. Box 475, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
