Rose Marie (Chassey) McCarthy age 88 of Taunton, formerly of Brockton, died Saturday July 30, 2016 at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was the devoted wife of William H. McCarthy for 65 years. Rose Marie was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Albert and Arsena (Joyal) Chassey. After her marriage to Bill, she lived and raised her children in Brockton, and lived in Taunton for the past 25 years.
Growing up in a French speaking home, Rose Marie attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1946 graduate of St. Patrick High School. She also attended Bridgewater State College. In 1989 Rose Marie retired from New England Telephone after 26 years of service. In her retirement she worked and volunteered at The Children’s Museum in Easton.
As a woman who appreciated the arts, Rose Marie played the piano and enjoyed taking her children and grandchildren to New York City, museums and historic sites and landscapes throughout New England. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and dancing with her husband. Rose Marie will be remembered as a sweet and loving woman whose caring manner affected everyone she met. Her devotion to her Catholic faith helped fulfill her desire to help others whether volunteering at her church, starting the Mother’s Club at St. Ann Church in Raynham or attending Pro Life marches in Boston and Washington, DC. She received the Marian Medal for Dedicated Service to the Church from the Diocese of Fall River.
In addition to her husband Rose Marie leaves her four children Paula Hutcheson and her husband Stephen of Berkley, MA, Neal McCarthy and his wife Noreen of Brockton, Daniel McCarthy of Brockton and Mary Elizabeth Mignano and her husband Dominic of New Jersey. She leaves 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her siblings Claire Power of New Jersey, Roger Chassey of Easton and Raymond Chassey and his wife Jane of Missouri.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday 4-8 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:30 am for a funeral Mass in St. Ann Church Raynham at 10 am. Burial in the Mass National Cemetery in Bourne t 12:30 pm.
