GRANBY – Kenneth M. Mekal, 54, of Granby, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, July 24, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving mother. He was born in Holyoke on February 27, 1962, a beloved son of Helen V. (Gansor) Mekal of Granby and the late Felix K. Mekal who was Called Home on May 2, 2003. He was raised in Granby, graduated from Granby High School and was a lifelong resident of Granby. He was employed as a journeyman electrician at Smith College in Northampton and had previously worked as an electrician at Collins Electric in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 7 and the Holyoke Lodge of Elks. During his leisure time, Ken enjoyed fishing and camping. Besides his beloved father, he was predeceased by his loving brother, David F. Mekal who was Called Home on June 28, 1998; and his loving brother-in-law, Jesse L. Edgin who was Called Home on September 19, 1994. Besides his beloved mother, he leaves his loving sister, Patricia M. Edgin of Valley, WA; his loving brother, Ronald J. Mekal of West Springfield; his dear aunts and uncles, Veronica Robison and her husband, James, of Maine, Edmund Mekal and his wife, Joan, of West Springfield and John Gansor and his wife, Beverly, of Florida; his cherished grandniece, Chantel Williams of Colville, WA; and his many dear cousins and friends. His family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday morning, August 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Visiting hours are private for his family at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
