Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Winthrop Missler, 71, of Cumberland, Rhode Island formerly of Franklin died suddenly July 22 at his home.

Born in Brockton, May 19, 1945, the son of the late Charles and Katherine (Fisher) Missler, Mr. Missler had lived in Franklin for many years before he moved to Cumberland.

Mr. Missler was a 1967 graduate of Bridgewater State College with a B.Ed. degree. He also received his Master’s in Education from Cambridge College in 1996. Mr. Missler also completed additional Master’s courses at Fitchburg and Salem State College.

Mr. Missler had spent his career as a teacher in the Franklin Public Schools. He taught Math in grades 6 & 7 from 1967 -1968. He then taught English for grades 7-12 from 1969-2004. He was equally passionate about teaching and coaching.

Chuck had been the head football coach at both Franklin High School and Bellingham High School. He had also been the junior varsity basketball coach at both Franklin and Bellingham High Schools. He was the track coach at Bellingham High School, and Assistant track coach at Franklin High School.

Mr. Missler had been the advisor for the school newspaper, chaired the committee to revamp daily class schedules at Franklin high School, served on the High School parent-teacher council as mandated by Ed reform, served on the Superintendents all school council and was President of the Franklin Education Association.

Chuck enjoyed music, animals and was an avid fan of all sports.

He is survived by his sisters, Sharon Cates of Palmer, Alaska, Harriette Stevenson of Foxboro, Helen Janson of Plymouth, and Irene Blackmore of Idaho.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Tammy Ares, Kevin Cates, Tina Shaughnessy, Scott Stevenson and Michelle Neault.

Services and interment will be private.
