Antone S. “Tony” Monteiro, Jr., age 85, of Brockton, died July 15, 2016 at Baypointe Skilled Nursing Facility following a period of failing health. Born, raised and educated in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Antone S. and Flora (Maciel) Monteiro and husband of Filomena A. (Gomes) Monteiro. Tony had been a resident of Brockton since 1965 and retired as a Brockton school bus driver after many years. He was also a gifted guitarist and played with several local jazz groups throughout the New Bedford and Cape region. Tony was a simple, humble, and kind hearted man always willing to help others. Tony loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, enjoyed deep sea fishing and cats.
Tony was the father of Antone “Tony” Monteiro, III, Kathy Roberts, Judy Silva and her husband Robert, Anne Marie Graham, Flora Monteiro, Chris Monteiro, and the late Michele Monteiro. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a sister Carol Monteiro, and his former wife Anna Monteiro. He was the brother of the late Edward and Mathias Monteiro.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Monday 10:30-11:30am followed by private family services.
