Bernard G. Sylvia, 61, of New Bedford died July 22, 2005 at Berkshire Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was the husband of Barbara J. (Rose) Sylvia with whom he shared 37 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, the son of the late Vincent and Anna (Burch) Sylvia, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in New Bedford.
Mr. Sylvia was formerly employed by the Bristol County Sheriff's Department and was a motion picture photographer while in the service.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Sylvia enjoyed woodworking, furniture building and home renovation.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jason Sylvia of New Bedford; 4 brothers, William Sylvia, Vincent Lopes, Michael Lopes and Patrick Lopes, all of Providence; 3 sisters, Diane Chaplain of Tampa, FL, Nina Sylvia of Virginia and Mary Harrison of Providence; a granddaughter, Jaisa Mackey; 2 sister-in-laws, Benita (Rose) Monteiro of Dartmouth and Kathleen (Rose) Davis of Norwood; a brother-in-law, Benjamin Rose, Jr. of New Bedford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of the late George Sylvia.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday, July 26th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Monday, July 25th from 5-8 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford.
