Obituary

Harold C. ‘Red’ Soults of Provincetown died Friday, July 15, 2016 at Seashore Point Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Provincetown. He was 98. His wife, Mary A. [Viegas] Soults died in 1991.

Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Cleo [Deel] Soults. After graduating from Spirit Lake High School, he moved to Kansas City Missouri and became a breakfast cook at various local restaurants. In 1941, he enlisted in the Navy serving as a sonar man during WW II. After the war, he met his wife and they settled in Provincetown.

In Provincetown, Mr. Soults worked for Lands’ End Marine Supply for 25 years. He also worked for Meads Brothers Plumbing and Flying Plumbers, retiring about four years ago. During retirement he enjoyed sitting on the stoop of his Commercial Street home, greeting and chatting with the many passersby. In his spare time, he played trombone for the Provincetown Marching band, and then the Lower Cape band. One of his great joys was coaching the Cape Tip 1951 Little League Championship baseball team. He was a member of the Lewis Young Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by daughters Susan Jackett of Provincetown and Cheryl Crosby of Deland Florida.

Grandchildren Erika Meads, Justine Crosby, Shelby Serrano, Braunwyn, Beau, Luke and Kyle Jackett, as well as 9 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter survive him. He was predeceased by grandson Kim Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Harold's family on Wednesday, July 20th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:15 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
