Eugene G. Pirkle, 95, of Sycamore passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Hall County, Georgia to the late Grover Washington and Bessie Nora Jones Pirkle he was a retired farmer and cattleman. He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1937. He was the Director of the Turner Association Training Union for 23 years, the 1964 Farmer of the Year and Man of the Year in Soil and Water Conservation. The 1982 Farm Family of the Year and 2002 Citizen of the year. He was also a trustee of the Baptist Village of Waycross. He taught Sunday School for 65 years at Bethel Baptist Church and was on the Executive Committee of The Georgia Baptist Convention.
He is survived by his children, Leon and Barbara Pirkle of Dahlonega, Margene and the late "Bug" Wynn of Sycamore, Donald and Patsy Pirkle of Hahira, Gerald and Linda Pirkle of Sycamore, Earnie and Sarah Pirkle of Savannah, and Martha Ann and Keith Carter of Sycamore. Grandchildren, Linda and Paul Harbeson, Gary and Alyson Pirkle, Cathy and Phil Blake, Chris and Yvonne Pirkle, Marvin and Donna Wynn, Allen and Julie Wynn, Keith and Beth Wynn, Melanie and Scotty Raines, Patrick and Shae Pirkle, Kevin and Sandra Pirkle, Pam and Troy Corbett, Clay and Sharon Pirkle, Vance and Susan Pirkle, Wes and Wendi Pirkle, Gena and Lee James, Jody and Sharon Carter, Andy and Kristen Carter, and Becky and Joey Lupo. Great-Grandchildren, Stephen, True Anne, Timothy and Bethany Harbeson, Jake and Scott Pirkle, Georgia and Sean Pirkle, Mark and Nancy Wynn, Jamie and Kristen Wynn, Spencer and Ashley Wynn, Matthew, Ruby and Cecilia Wynn, Lindsey Brown and Jerry Wynn, Celie and Christian Raines, Rachel and Zach Huber, Luke, Matthew and Faith Pirkle, Sydney, Marleigh and Ty Corbett, Andrew, DeAnna and Nathan Pirkle, Elizabeth and Bryce Harrison, Rebekah, Sarah, Caleb and Phillip Pirkle, Benjamin and Andrew Pirkle, Davis, Branson and Sarah Grace James, Esther and Joshua Carter, Ethan and Rylan Carter and Wyatt Nutt, Eliza and Caleb Lupo. Great-great grandchildren, Hunter, Jace and Caden Wynn, Gracie Chapman, Mackenzie Turner, Madison, Nealon and Elliot White, Jayson Wynn, Ava and Maddux Wynn. Siblings, Otho and Carolyn Pirkle, Ethelene Haselton and Maybelle Cross. Brother and sisters-in-law, Sue Pirkle Harrison, Ann Pirkle, Sybil Gandy and Emory McMillian. Several nieces and nephew also survive.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Myrl True Christian Pirkle and his second wife, Drama McMillian Pirkle.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Bethel Baptist Church Family Ministry Building from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
