PYE - John William, 68, died unexpectedly at his home in Abington on June 29, 2016. He was an antiquarian, a rare book dealer, specializing in Egyptology, and a scholar.
John was the son of the late William and Caroline (Chase) Pye. He was the brother of James and his wife, Grace, of Sandwich; his sisters Martha Mulholland of Abington and Ann Pye of South Weymouth. John is the loving uncle of Suzanne Lockwood and her husband Steven, Matthew Mulholland IV and his wife Stacey, Cyndi Earle, and Mark Collins. He is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.
John was born and raised in South Weymouth. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and Saint John's Seminary in Boston, MA. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Watkinson Library at Trinity College for many years. John worked in several group homes before settling into his true passion, books. He has authored several bibliographies and published numerous articles on various Ancient Egyptian topics. He also enjoyed many hobbies including coin and stamp collecting.
A memorial service will be held to honor John, on Saturday, July 9th at 11 AM, at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 44 Park Ave, Whitman, MA.
