Oliver W. Piette, 95, of Sumner Brown Rd. died July 4, 2016 at Mt St. Rita Health Centre. He was the husband of the late Irene (O’Neill ) Piette. Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Oniseme and Laura (Ally) Piette. Mr. Piette worked at Taft Pierce Mfg. Co. for twenty nine years. He also worked for Circular Tool in Providence, and Acme-Cleveland in Cranston as a machinist and quality control technician.
Oliver was an Air Force Veteran and served during WWII with the Fifth Air Force in the Southwest Pacific Theater in New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. He was the recipient of several company ribbons and medals.
He was a 1940 graduate of Woonsocket High School and was a semi-pro baseball player. He coached the FOP Little League team in the Fair-North League for three years during the 1960’s. He was a member of the international Assoc. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was a member of the Co. C SAW Battalion Veterans Organization.
He is survived by two sons, Donald F. Piette of Andover, MA; and David M. Piette of Glendale; a daughter Barbara A. Piette-Lovett of Cambridge, MA and four grandchildren, Timothy Piette, Zachary Lovett, Jennifer Piette, and Esther Lovett.
His funeral with visitation will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will be held in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone, MA.
