Obituary

Estel Lee McKinney, 94, of Fishers, IN, died June 30, 2016 at Allisonville Meadows, his residence.

He was born in a log cabin on December 30, 1921 in Waynesburg, KY, the son of Oscar E. and Nettie M. (Greer) McKinney. He graduated from Eubank High School in Eubank, KY in 1940. After attending business school, he enrolled in the US Army where he served during World War II and was honorably discharged on February 5, 1944.

Estel began his civilian career with the Veteran's Administration and then continued on to devote his life to sales. One of his greatest successes in sales was owning the first Stuckey's Pecan Shop in Abingdon, VA, which became one of the top stores in the chain under his leadership.

A most important part of his life was the Anderson Church of God in Bristol, VA, where he taught Sunday School, drove the church van and served as treasurer for many years.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna (Gerald) Helvey of Fishers, IN, his six grandchildren, Robyn (John) Simmons of Anchorage, AK, Angela (Jose) Fernandez of Fishers,IN, Kimberlee (Eric) Harvey of Greenwood, IN, Bradley (Selena) Helvey of Noblesville, Deborah (Tom) Pacheco of Columbia Falls, MT and David (Carrieann) Helvey of Eaton, OH. Also surviving are 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Hazel (Greene) McKinney, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 1PM at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11AM until 1PM on Wednesday.
