Mr. M. Hamric Henry, age 88, of Water Valley, MS, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Yalobusha County General Hospital in Water Valley, MS. The husband of the late Dorothy Jane Bennett Henry and the son of the late Malcolm Hamric Henry Sr. and Mallie Wall Henry was born in Hickory Flat, MS on August 22, 1916. He moved to Water Valley in 1931 and graduated from WVHS in 1935. He then attended the Gupton Jones Mortuary School in Nashville, graduating in 1938. Mr. Henry worked briefly for Dickens Funeral Home in Batesville and then purchased the Water Valley Funeral Home in June of 1947. He owned and operated Henry Funeral Home for 32 years. Mr. Henry served as the Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-president, and President of the MS Funeral Directors Assoc. and District 1 Governor. He was a member of First Christian Church of Water Valley, MS, Chamber of Commerce, VFW, and Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow). He served as the mayor of Water Valley for 2 terms beginning in 1981.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 19, 2005, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 20, 2005, in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Brother David Freeman and Larry Hart will officiate with interment following in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley with Barron Caulfield, Larry Hart, D.R. Ingram, Butch Surrette, B.C. Taylor, and Lowell Edwards.
Mr. Henry is survived by his daughter Jane Henry Crow of Water Valley, MS; sister, Hazel H. Bradley of Trussville, AL; grandchildren, Bennett Henry Crow, Anna Jane Crow, and John Shannon Crow. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jane Bennett Henry and a brother, Dr. Louie C. Henry.
