New Bedford – Therese (Arguin) Poitras, 88, of New Bedford passed away June 21, 2016 at Sacred Heart Home. She was the widow of Marcel Poitras.
Mrs. Poitras was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Joseph and Anne E. (LaPlante) Arguin, and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford. She was employed as a stitcher by various local textile companies until her retirement. Mrs. Poitras served on the Board of Directors of the Greater New Bedford Society for Handicapped Children and was a former Brownie Leader. She enjoyed crafts, bingo, cruises and casinos.
Survivors include her son: Paul J. Poitras; her daughter: Diane L. Curtis and her adopted son, Tony; her sisters: Annette Provencal, Bertha Koeberle, Irene Mondou and Cecile Jarman; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was mother of the late Pauline Languirand and sister of the late Pauline Arguin, Noella Arguin, Gertrude Arguin, Yvette Lavigne, Jeanne Provencal, Laurette Patnaude, Larry Arguin, Gerard Arguin, Gilles Arguin, Paul Arguin (her twin) and Noel Arguin.

Visiting hours at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford on Sunday, June 26, 2016, 4:00-7:00 P.M.
Funeral from the funeral home on Monday at 8 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford at 9 A.M.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery II, New Bedford.
