SALEM- Charles M. Stasinopulos, 84, of Salem, husband of the late Jane (Doulopoulos) Stasinopulos, died Sunday evening, May 19, 2002 in Ashland, following a brief illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Michael and Dorothy (Stamatopoulos) Stasinopulos.
Prior to his retirement in 1972, he was a letter carrier at the Salem Post Office for over 25 years.
A lifelong resident of Salem, he was a member of the St Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, the VFW, Witch City Post #1524, Salem, and was an avid sports fan.
An Army veteran of WWII, he attained the rank of Sergeant and served the European African and Middle Eastern Theaters and fought in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Normandy.
Mr Stasinopulos is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy & John Carabello of Ashland, Drusilla Richard of Beverly, five grandchildren, Drusilla Richard of Beverly, Jeffrey and his wife Sue Richard of Salem, David Carabello of West Hartford, CT, Charlene Carabello of Newton, Michael Carabello of Ashland, two sisters, Lulu Butler and Jenny Venios both of Salem and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a service at 10 am in the St Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 4 to 8 PM. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
