Mary Almeida Wilkey, 82, of Chicago passed away on July 8, 2005. She was a devoted wife to her husband John Wilkey Sr. who preceded her in death.
Born in Rochester, Mass., the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (DeGrasse) Almeida, she lived in the Boston area for many years before moving to Chicago six years ago.
Mary was retired from a career with the drug manufacturing firm Merck & Co. in Needham. She was an enthusiastic member of the Juanita Temple of the Elks of the World in Cambridge. She will be greatly missed for her inspirational attitude, her sense of humor and the unconditional love she shared with us all.
She is survived by her loving family including two sons Lloyd Wilkey and his wife Jebby of Los Angeles, and John Wilkey Jr., and his wife Sandra of Chicago and three adoring grandchildren, John III, Jacqueline, and Taylor . She leaves behind her brother, Antone Almeida of Boston, four sisters-in-law, cousins, and an impressive extended family of caring individuals.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 16, 2005 at 9 AM in Our Lady of Assumption Church, 47 South Sixth Street, New Bedford, MA. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Diabetes Foundation in her name are encouraged.
