Anthony J. Maffie of Medford, formerly from the North End of Boston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2016, surrounded by family. He was 92 years old.
Anthony was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Alfonsina (Marino) Maffie and the devoted husband of the late Angela (Grande) Maffie. He was a loving father to Maria Bakopolus and her husband Arthur of Methuen, Joan Robblee and her husband Michael of Stoneham, cherished grandfather to Gregory and Laura Bakopolus of Methuen and Jessica Robblee of Stoneham, and caring brother to Barbara Zollo of Revere, and the late Lena Mercurio of Wakefield and Ceil Pappa of Medford. Anthony is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Tony worked as the lead foreman at a corrugated box factory where he devised many solutions for the machines and supervised many workers. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army with the famed Americal Division in the South Pacific. He was a talented boxer, mechanic, woodworker, and handyman, and he always loved music, family vacations, classic cars, and ice cream. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing harmonica. He was happiest entertaining family and friends with jokes and stories over a cup of coffee, the memories of which will live on forever. Tony instilled his love and generosity in every life he touched and will be remembered as a wonderful, selfless man who worked tirelessly to make everything better for everyone around him.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Friday, June 10, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday, June 9, from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
