Madeline K. (Rodrigues) (King) Gomes, a 5o year Stoughton resident, passed away after an extended illness on Monday July 11, 2005 at the Braemoor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton. She was 80 years old. She was the loving wife of Christian A. Gomes Sr.
Born September 10, 1924 in East Providence, Rhode Island, she was a Daughter of the late Mr. Manuel and Mrs. Dominga (Rosario) Rodrigues.
Mrs. Gomes attended Rhode Island Public Schools and Roger Williams High School. Prior to moving to Stoughton, Massachusetts Mrs. Gomes had resided in Canton, Massachusetts for a short time.
Mrs. Gomes was employed as a stitcher by the former Plymouth Rubber Company and the former Twin-Kee Raincoat and Curtain Factory, both of Stoughton.
She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton.
Mrs. Gomes was a dedicated housewife and mother. She enjoyed Artwork, Classical Music and Travelling. She was an avid coupon collector and used to make special trips to the Covenant House in New York to donate her coupons to the less fortunate.
She was a “Skating Mom” and frequently followed her children to Florida and Pennsylvania for their events.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Gomes is survived by her children: Christian A. Gomes Jr. and his wife Heidi of Raynham and Wanita Rose Gomes of Stoughton. She is also survived by her sister Georgianna Andrews of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She was also the cherished grandmother of Wanita Monique Gomes of Brockton, Patrick Gomes and Ellen Gomes, both of Raynham and was the great-grandmother of Thalia Montavo Gomes of Brockton and Alana Paige Gomes of Raynham. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Her funeral will be held on Friday July 15, 2005 at 9:00 A.M. from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, (Off Rt. 138 at the Webster Bank), Stoughton. Followed by a mass of Christian burial for the repose of her soul at 10:15 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Rt. 27 Stoughton. Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 14, 2005 from 6- 8 P.M.
