William “Pops” MacLeod

TEWKSBURY - Mr. William “Bill” “Pops” MacLeod, age 76, a retired engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, May 29, surrounded in the loving care of his family and hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine E. (Wooldridge) MacLeod, with whom he had celebrated a 38th wedding anniversary this past October 2.
Bill was born in Somerville one of seven children of the late Gordon and Agnes Theresa (Broughall) MacLeod, and raised in Somerville. He married Lorraine and lived in Somerville and Woburn before they moved to Tewksbury in 1981 to raise their family. “Pops” was proud of his Irish heritage, and was an active member of the Billerica Irish American Club.
He retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where he had worked as a facilities engineer at several state institutions, including Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham, the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers, the J.T. Berry Rehabilitation Center in No. Reading, and the Danvers State Hospital.
Bill will be remembered for his quick Irish wit, sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye, and his love for all things around NASCAR racing. Pops was part of the X-lot crew at NHIS.
Besides his beloved wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen R. and Catherine (Couperus) of Chester, NH, a daughter, Heather I. MacLeod of Windermere, FL; a granddaughter and the “apple of his eye” Lucille Patricia MacLeod; a sister, Agnes Beattie of FL; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Bill was eagerly anticipating the birth of a grandchild this coming September, and was also predeceased by his sisters, Barbara Steele, Margaret “Dolly” Goodrow, Alice Barrentine, Madeline DePalma, and brother, Robert MacLeod.
Visiting hours Tuesday, May 31, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday morning, June 1, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Private burial at Beaver Dam Cemetery in Webster N.H. will be Thursday.
