Obituary

Richard Stedman Chaloff of Delray Beach Florida, formerly of Newton died on Monday July 11, 2005. He was 85 years old. Born in Newton the son of the late Julius L. and Margaret (Stedman) Chaloff , Richard attended Newton Schools and was a graduate of Newton North High School Class of 1939. He attended Northeastern University and then worked with MIT with 5000 engineers developing the single radar dish. He also invented a device for testing radar at sea for which he received $1.00 from the government. Richard was granted a presidential deferment from President Franklin D. Roosevelt fro the entire World War II. He late designed the first 100 watt hi-fi stereo and built a business, Stedman Ltd in Brookline with his three sons. Richard was one of the youngest Ham radio operators receiving is class one license at the age of 13. He built a 1000 watt radio transmitter and spoke to people all over the world. Mr Chaloff had lived in Newton for over 50 years before retiring to Delray Beach in 1999. The beloved husband for over 50 years of Nancy (Namaksy), he was the father of Richard S. Jr. of Walpole, Gregory S. and his wife Jamie of Newton and Christopher M and his wife Debi of Dover. Brother of the late Serge Chaloff. Grandfather of Richard III, Scott, Christopher, Alex, Ashley, Courtney, Corey and Renee. A Funeral Service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Friday July 15 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment Forest Hills Cemetery.
