An angel whispered in Dad's ear ; Come on, Don! The fish are biting! And don't forget to bring
your camera! So he grabbed his gear and off he went, so peaceful and happy, surrounded by his girls.
Donald J. Martin, a Camarillo resident for 40 years, passed away on May 25, 2016. He was born
on July 30, 1933 in Los Angeles. Don served in the Army during the Korean War where he guarded
West Berlin prior to the construction of the Berlin Wall. After a 32 year career with Abex Corporation in
Oxnard as a machinist, Don enjoyed working for PVP, which allowed him to drive new imported cars
from the docks into the parking areas. This was his dream job! He loved cars, especially the classics!
Don and his wife, Lou, also owned Jere’s Liquor in Camarillo in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Don’s favorite hobby was photography where he won several blue ribbons in the Ventura
County Fair. He was brilliant at getting the lighting just right! Fishing was also one of his favorite past
times, for Don spent many years fresh water fishing in the High Sierras and streams in Oregon. He
taught his girls how to fish when they were kids during many family camping trips.
Don is survived by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Grace (Lou) Martin; daughters Bonnie
Borough (Raymond) and Laurie Bowen (Scott); granddaughters Carolyn, Michelle, and Kristen Borough,
Kathleen Bowen and Kacey Caspers (Benjamin); great grandchildren Zachary and Haylee Caspers.
Don’s family wishes to thank his caregiver, Chris, for being his “little buddy” and the nurses of
Companion Hospice and Bright Star, especially Fe, for their love and support while caring for Don.
Don loved all animals large or small. If you would like to make a donation in his name, please do
so to Paw Works Inc., 79 E. Daily Dr. Suite 515, Camarillo, CA 93010
“Don, you will forever be in our hearts! We love you and we’ll talk to you soon!”
