Rita C. (Prendergast) McMahon, age 96 of Brockton, died Monday May 23, 2016 at St. Joseph Manor where she had been a resident for the past 6 years. Rita was the wife of the late Arthur McMahon.
She was born in Brockton, a daughter of the late James and Delia (Dillon) Prendergast and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Rita attended Brockton schools and for many years she had been a hostess for Breen’s Catering in Brockton and also worked at the Voting Polls every election.
Rita had been a member of the Charity Guild, the Mary Kennedy Senior Center and AARP Brockton Chapter #3032.
She enjoyed trips with her husband and the post office gang, bowling and watching the live entertainment while a resident at St. Joseph’s Manor. Rita will be remembered as very sociable woman who enjoyed outings with friends and family.
Survivors include two nieces Judith (Prendergast) Fishman and her husband Steve of Brockton, Sandra Good and her husband John of Bridgewater, two great nieces Stefanie Herzstein of Washington and Maxine Pichaske of Freetown and a great nephew Marc Fishman of Waltham. She is also survived by a daughter-in law Linda Marston of Pennsylvania and a sister-in-law Agnes Prendergast of Brockton. Rita was the mother of the late John Marston and Richard McMahon, sister of the late James J. Prendergast, Margaret “Peg” Danielczyk, Anne Prendergast, and Therese Smolin and aunt of the late Stanley Danielczyk and Anne Thomas.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte.123) Brockton on Tuesday May 31 starting at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 10:30 am.
