Justine Alice (Vanasse ) Maxson . ’Jo’, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on May 23, 2016. She was born June 3rd, 1927 in Waterbury Ct., to Armand & Alice (Nee: Villette) Vanasse.
Justine and her late husband, James R. Maxson Jr. raised their family together in Buffalo, NY before retiring to Mystic, Ct.
In 1949 Justine received a BS diploma in Business Administration from UCONN; In 1968 she earned a MS degree in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo, NY. She retired in 1978 as Head Librarian of Williamsville Public Library, Amherst, NY. From 1978-80 she worked at Otis Library, Norwich, Ct. She worked at Mystical Toys, Mystic, Ct. as a Sales Associate. She served as a volunteer and clerk at the Mystic Seaport Museum and Book Store. She was an avid reader, gardener and hostess.
Justine is survived by Sara Maxson Sheldon and her husband William F. Sheldon of St Augustine, Fl. and Lizbeth Maxson McGee and her husband Dennis A. McGee of Groton, Ct. and James Ryley Maxson III and his wife Elizabeth S. Maxson of Buffalo, NY and Christopher Kevin Maxson of Mystic, Ct. She was also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at her home, 214 Cedar Rd. Mystic, Ct on June 4th from 12 to 2 PM.
