Therese C. Martel, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday May 22, 2016 with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Edward Godin who passed away in 1993 and the late Edgar Martel who passed away in 2007.
Born and raised in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Herve and Anita (Gingras) Bibeault. She resided in Manville for many years and later in North Smithfield for several years.
She was employed in the local textile industry at the Hanora Lippitt mill and Bonte spinning.
Therese was a longtime communicant of Holy Family Parish. She was a member of the St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Senior citizens groups. A friendly and outgoing person Therese was always game for a hand of cards or a trip to try her luck at the local casinos. Although her love of family came first and foremost in her life bingo was a very close second. Bingo nights were sacred. Therese was a devoted wife and mother and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a son Robert P. Godin and his wife, Mildred, of Gloucester, two daughters Suzanne J. Poisson of North Smithfield and Michelle F. Cahill and her husband, Joseph, of Fairless Hill, PA. She was the mother-in-law of the late Eugene N. Poisson who passed away in 1997. She was the sister of Roger Bibeault of Woonsocket and the late Herve Jr., Bertrand, Roland “Pete”, Normand, Lucien, Edgar and Constance Bibeault and Jeannette Rivet. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her funeral will be Thursday at 10:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Holy Family Church, South Main St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
