Acushnet – Austin J. “Sonny” Manning, 90, passed away October 29, 2015. Anne A. (Tipping) Manning, 86, passed away March 20, 2016.
Austin was born in Shrewsbury, son of the late Austin J. and Mary (Grace) Manning. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served as Commander of VFW Post 6643 from 1962 to 1964. He was employed as a truck driver and was a long-time member of the Teamsters Union.
Anne was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Leonard F. and Alice A. (Dixon) Tipping. She was a dedicated homemaker, remaining at home to raise her children. Later, she enjoyed working as a secretary. She served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW Post 6643 from 1962 to 1964.
Together Mr. and Mrs. Manning shared 66 years of marriage. In their retirement, they split their time between their homes in Massachusetts and Florida. Austin pursued his enjoyment of boating and fishing and Anne, an avid reader, could be found enjoying a good book and the warmth of the sun on her porch.
Survivors include their children: Carol and her husband, R. Penn Reeve, Robert “Bob” Manning and his fiancée, Ruth Dutra, Patrick Manning, Leonard “Len” Manning, and Mary Cobb and her husband, Douglas Cobb; a daughter-in-law: Lori Souza; and 8 grandchildren: Andra Reeve Rabb, Richard Reeve, Erin Manning Mullaney and her husband, Tim Mullaney, Seth Manning, Jacob Souza, Nicholas Cobb, Owen Cobb and Elliott Cobb.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
