Valerie Ann (Rogers) Mackey passed away peacefully at home with her head on her beloved husband's chest at the precious age of 66. Valerie was born in Santa Ana, CA on September 18, 1949 to Leora and Philip Rogers. At the age of 8, the family moved to Ventura, CA.
Valerie and David's love sparked almost immediately. They met in Spring of 1967 when Valerie drove to the local Mobil gas station where David worked. After the third time visiting the gas station within an hours time, she finally grew the nerve to ask him to a small get together with friends, an invitation David was thrilled to accept. Once at the party, she introduced him as "My guy," turning to him after to ask, "Wait, what's your name?" A year later, David asked Valerie for her hand in marriage. She immediately told him, "You have to ask my dad," which he did. When David approached Phil, he was asked, "Can you take care of her in the manner which she is accustomed?" David replied, "No." At which time Phil told David to take her anyhow. Almost 48 years of marriage later, 3 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, David lost the love of his life.
Valerie was preceded in death by her brother Brett (7/4/06), mother Leora (4/24/08) and father Philip (1/4/11). She is survived by her beloved husband David, daughters Traci Mackey, Kimberly (BJ) Blossomgame and Dione (Justin) Webster; grandchildren Jesse and Veronykah Arreguin, Quincy Brown, Darius Blossomgame, Wyatt, Ethan, Gage and Addyson Webster; great-grandchildren Quincy Brown, Jr. and Mila Lee-Ann Arreguin; sister Linda (late husband, Bob) Pranger of Prescott, AZ, brother Patrick (Margaret) Rogers of Ventura, CA and many nieces and nephews.
A small celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 (details to be disclosed once finalized).
The family would like to send their deepest gratitude for the loving care and support given to Valerie in her final months of life by Assisted Home Hospice. In lieu of flowers, they ask for donations to be made to Assisted Home Hospice, 4450 Westinghouse Street, Ventura, CA 93003.
