Obituary

71, of Boston, died peacefully at home on May 15 after a year long battle with lung cancer. Born January 2, 1945, to the late Mr. & Mrs. Yoffim Mazur of Roslindale. He started his teaching career in the Boston School District in 1971, & retired 32 years later as Principal of the William E. Carter School. It was his initiative to create the Sensory Garden Outdoor Classroom at the school so that students in wheelchairs could experience nature loving activities. The finished project went on to win a Merit Design Award & was dedicated by Mayor Tom Menino. He had a strong passion for travel, cooking, entertaining, & just being there for family & friends. He was loved by many & will be greatly missed. Survivors include his partner & spouse of 24 years, Sam Rector, his sisters, Evelyn Mazur of Roslindale & Alice Jardine of Anchorage, AK, his brother, George Mazur of Roslindale, his niece & nephew-in-law, Jill & Augie LaRue of San Francisco, CA , & his nephew, Ross Jardine of Anchorage, AK. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Friends of the Carter School, 396 Northampton St., Boston, MA 02118, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472. At his request, his body was cremated, & no services will be held.
