Obituary

Andrew N. Samuelson died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. He had been a life long resident of Brockton, living more than 75 years in the Campello section. He attended the South School, Huntington School and graduated from Brockton High School, class of 1928. He was a Brockton civil defense fireman in his younger years wearing badge #11. He was born on December 19, 1910 son of the late Andrew J. and Agnes (Deering) Samuelson, and was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Cahoon) Samuelson whom he married on July 3, 1937. They were married 52 years prior to her death.

He began his career working for A&P, the BPM and retired after more than 35 years of service as a salesman from the H.J. Heinz Company. After his retirement from Heinz, his love of woodworking shined by working for Batson Building Supplies and Baranowski Woodworking. He was dedicated to St. Margaret’s Parish for more than 75 years, serving as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, head usher, and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He had been an active and consistent volunteer until the age of 92. At the age of 88 he began writing his memories of life in Brockton. Several of his stories were published in the Brockton Enterprise in the “By Our Readers” column. He enjoyed woodworking and created over 100 wooden jigsaw puzzles, several Christmas mangers, papa stools and cutting boards. Neighbors in Campello knew him for his beautiful budding flower gardens on West Chestnut Street.

He is survived by his seven children Andrew G. Samuelson and his companion Suzanne Tobin of East Bridgewater, Carol Porazzo and her husband Anthony of Florida, Mary Jones and her husband Walter of Brockton, Dorothy (Ford) Samuelson of Halifax, Alice Grant of Alaska, Margaret Dinnen and her husband Leroy of Florida and Elizabeth Frazier and her husband William of Norton, 24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
