Joan Marie (Cullen) Hobbs, 53, of York Court., Ledyard, died Sunday at Mariner Healthcare at Pendleton in Mystic where she had been a patient since Tuesday.
Joan was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 3, 1949 the daughter of Mildred Mary. Hanlon-Cullen of Satellite Beach, Fla., and the late John Francis. Cullen.
Raised in MA, she was a 1967 graduate of Lexington High School and later received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of MA at Amherst in 1971.
Joan was employed as a site coordinator at the Integrated Day Charter School in Norwich. She was previously employed as an afterschool program director in the Griswold Public School System.
A resident of Ledyard since 1987, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry and was a former Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed crafts and gardening.
In addition to her mother, Joan is survived by her husband, Charles Farrar Hobbs Jr., her children, Melissa Marie Hobbs-Petersen of Medford, MA and Shawn Cullen Hobbs of Ann Arbor, MI and her sister, Jeanne Cullen of Weymouth, MA.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 6-8pm. Her service will be conducted at the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry on Thursday at 3pm. Interment will follow in the church memorial garden.
