TAUNTON – Barbara M. (Matheus) McCaffrey, wife of more than 55 years to William F. McCaffrey, died at her Taunton home on May 12, 2016. She was 77.
Born in North Dighton, she was the daughter of the late Germano and E. Dorothea (Sylvia) Matheus.
A 1957 graduate of Taunton High School, she received her nursing license from the Pondville Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. Employed for 30 years with Morton Hospital, she continued working for Dr. Thadeus Figlock for several years until she joined Marian Manor from which she retired in 1999. A communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church, she was a member of the Morton Hospital Retirees Association, Weir Seniors, and the THS Class of ‘57 Reunion Committee and a former member of St. Mary’s Church choir and Taunton Civic Chorus. She was a loving and caring person who was devoted to her family and friends. Barbara was also known for the hats that she wore.
In addition to her husband, she leaves one son, Matthew J. McCaffrey and his wife Lee of Taunton; two daughters, Susan E. North and her husband John of Taunton and Lynne A. Delisle of Berkley; one brother, Gilbert Matheus of Berkley; seven grandchildren, Victoria, Madison, Michael, Bridget, Mollie, Melanie, and Daniel; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Everett and Ronald Matheus, and the mother-in-law of the late David Delisle.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, May 7th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
