Joyce Pauline (Hinkson) Mercury of Boston died on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Joyce Pauline Mercury who everyone called Joycie, Mummy Joyce, Mother Mercury or Sister Joyce, was born to the late Alfred and Annie Hinkson in Joes River St. Joseph Barbados.
Joyce attended the St. Elizabeth Primary School in Barbados. After leaving school she worked for the Barbados Meals Department for many years.
Joyce migrated ti the USA in 1989, where she resided in Boston. She had worked for the Charles Hotel from 1989 until 2003 when she retired.
Joyce was a lady with a big heart and a personality to match. She did not sugar coat anything. If she had something to tell you, she would tell you to your face.Sister Joyce loved the Lord and loved going to church and bible study whenever possible. She loved reading her bible and she loved to sing her favorite songs "I've Got My Mind Made Up" and "There is a Green Hill Far Away". She loved going on Church retreats and revivals. She was always willing to help in any way she could. Sister Joyce loved her family dearly and cherished all of her children; grands and great-grands. She was the foundation that stood strong for her family. She also loved her church family and was actually adopted into the Grant family. She shared a special bond with her PastorAviril Grant and her daughter Andrea Grant. Joyce loved to go shopping, especially Andrea Grant, you only had to say the word and she was ready. She also loved to cook. No one could stir a cou-cou like Joyce, it was one of her favorite foods. She also loved some breadfruit and she would eat any part of a pig.
Joyce was preceded and is now re-united with her parents Alfred and Annie Hinkson, her son Mervin "Coss" Hacket and her brother Colin Hackett
Devoted mother of Mavis Clarke, Anthony, Sybil, Lenox, Stephen Hackett, and Kenville Mercury and his wife Andrea. Dear grandmother of Nicole & Jason Clarke, Kenny, Rashawne and Keshawne Mercury, Sharon, Grantley, Kenville, Katrina, Giovanni Hackett, and many great grands.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting hours in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale on Saturday, May 21 from 10-11AM, followed by her funeral service.
Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
