John F. Marston, Jr., 67

Dateline: North Windham, CT

John F. Marston, Jr., age 67, of North Windham, CT, formerly of Norton, MA passed away peacefully, in the comfort of home, after years of battling health issues on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Susan M. (Bedard) Marston.

Born in Boston, MA on January 14, 1949, he was a loving son of the late John F. Sr. and Carolyn (Melville) Marston.

John grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and in Norton; where he was a 1966 graduate of Norton High School.

Following graduation he joined the United States Army serving in the Massachusetts National Guard, the active Army and finally the Connecticut National Guard; retiring as a Staff Sergeant with 28 years of faithful service to his country.

He then worked as a Federal Civil Service employee until retirement. Through his military years he resided in Texas, Hawaii, Maryland, California and lastly in Connecticut.

After retirement, John volunteered for many years as Windham Hospital in Connecticut. He loved camping with family and friends, playing cribbage, watching golf and his favorite television game show “Let’s Make A Deal”

In addition to his beloved wife Susan, he is survived by his devoted son Jason Marston and his wife Abby and his cherished granddaughters Calista and Blakely of Colchester, CT. He is also survived by his dear brother Richard Marston and his wife Marybeth of Chicago, IL and the late Brian Marston

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.

Visiting hours have been omitted and in lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to your local Wounded Warrior Project.
