Walter L. Bullard, 72, of Mattapoisett died Monday July 4, 2005 at home. He was the husband of Jean E. (Coker) Bullard; they had been married for 27 years.
Born in Worcester, the son of the late Walter L. and Johanna E. (Murphy) Bullard, he was raised in Oxford. He was a 1950 graduate of Oxford High School. He entered the U.S. Navy at the beginning of the Korean War and served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Monterey until May 1953. He then served at the U.S. Embassy on London, England until his discharge in November 1954. He attended Worcester Junior College in 1956 and graduated from Florida Southern College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Bullard was formerly employed as a Tax Accountant and Chief Financial Officer for Cotton Pickin' T's in Hyannis, and later as Human Resources Officer for Universal Headwear in Mattapoisett and Logo Athletic, Inc. until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Bullard was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and the American Legion Post 58 in Oxford. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Auburn. He served in the National Guard, Yankee Division in Webster in 1949.
Walter had a great, dry sense of humor; the family has many fond, funny memories. He loved spending time with his family, listening to music, especially Frank Sinatra, and dancing with his wife.
Survivors include his wife; four stepchildren, John F. DeMello and Richard H.F. DeMello, both of Mattapoisett, Jean E. (DeMello) Ellis of South Chatham, and Lauren Fields of Putnam, CT; two nephews, Michael Guskey of Grovenordale, CT and John Guskey of Dudley; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Joan M. Cloutier and Shirley Guskey.
A Private Committal Service with Military Honors will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
