Thomas J. Petersen, Sr., age 71, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away surrounded by his loving family, in the comfort of his home, on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen M. (Graney) Petersen to whom he was wed on September 6, 1969 and who died on August 24, 2012.
Born in Boston, MA on March 9, 1945, he was a loving son of the late John and Margaret (Frayer) Petersen.
Tom grew up in Norton and attended Norton Public Schools. Prior to retiring, he had been employed as a custodian for the Town of Norton School Department.
Mr. Petersen enjoyed raising his family and was extremely proud of his children’s accomplishments. He especially treasured the times spent with his adoring grandchildren and could often be found attending one of their sporting or school events. Tom’s hobbies also included playing cards, and visiting with family and friends alike.
He is survived by his devoted children Thomas Petersen, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Norton, Kim Bergamini and her husband Todd of Rochester, MA and Kelli Johansen and her husband Edward of Taunton. He was the cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Matthew, Joel, Brian, Jacob, Kyle and Emily. He was the dear brother of Robert Petersen of Tennessee, William Petersen of Norton, Carol Smith of Taunton, Margaret Cruff of Norton, and the late John Petersen and Lorraine Benaski. His loving nieces and nephews also survive him.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, May 4th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the Petersen family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Norton Police DARE Gift Account, 82 East Main St., Norton, MA 02766.
