Janice “Jan” McGarry, age 66, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
Born February 14, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan, Jan was the eldest of five children. She moved to Grand Rapids with her family at the age of 11 and after graduation resided in both Florida and California. Jan accepted Christ early in life and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served as the pastor’s assistant. Jan never met a stranger and enjoyed socializing, movies, going out to eat, reading and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
Jan is lovingly remembered by her partner of 25 years, Eddie Williams of Grand Rapids; brothers, James “Jimmy” William McGarry of Florida and David Allan McGarry of Grand Rapids; sisters, Kathleen “Kathy” Voshel (John) and Cindy McGarry both of Grand Rapids; adopted sister, Dispina Couturier (Bruce); two children, John “Michael” McGarry and Shauna Humphrey; Grandson, Michael; Grand daughter, Leigha Grace; and loving nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Harold James and Joenn McGarry, brother, Charles “Chuck” P. McGarry and nephew, Jason Leigh Hayes.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at First Missionary Baptist Church located at 1164 Lafayette Ave. SE Grand Rapids, Michigan 49509.
