WORCESTER - Leslie R. Gomes, 83, of Worcester died on Saturday July 2 in Glens Falls Hospital, New York after an illness.

His wife Ethel (Holbrook) Gomes died in 2003. He leaves six sons Leslie R. Gomes Jr. of Lowell, William D. Davis, John Davis, Thomas Davis and Daniel Gomez all of Worcester and Anthony Gomez of Peabody; three daughters Judy Breire and Cindy Richards both of Worcester; and Linda Gomes of Florida; a brother Henry Gomes of Hyannis; a sister Norma Eason of Boston; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gomes is predeceased by a son Robert H. Davis Jr. and 11 brothers and sisters. He was born in Harwich son of Isaac and Isabelle (Montero) Gomes.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.

Mr. Gomes worked as an auto reconditioner for the past 23 years at Lundgren Honda before recently retiring. The staff at Lundgren Honda was like a second family to Mr. Gomes.

He was an avid guitar player and boxed for the Army while he was in the military. He had a love for reconditioning cars.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 7 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.Royfuneral.com) 12 Hammond Street with a mass at 10 AM in St. Paul's Cathedral, 15 Chatham Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 6 from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home
