Mrs. Evelyn (Reed) Purdy, a resident of Marlborough, formerly of Medford and beloved wife of the late Norman H. Purdy, passed away at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Natick on Tuesday morning, March 29, 2016. She was 85 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 25, 1930, she was the beloved daughter of the late Perry and Evelyn (Siggins) Reed. Mrs. Purdy was a 1948 graduate of Revere High School. She had been employed by John Hancock Insurance and W.R. Grace Chemical Company as an Administrative Assistant, for many years. She also was employed by Medford Public Schools as a "lunch lady". Evelyn was a longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church of Medford, she enjoyed knitting,talking with friends, texting family and friends, using her iPad for Facebook and email. She wrote articles for the First Baptist Church Carillon always reminding all that read her articles to "Keep Love and a Song in Your Heart". She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn was the longtime companion of the late Francis Frank Saunders. She is survived by her loving children; Roger and his wife Paulette Purdy of Syracuse, New York, Irene and her husband Stephen Ekstrom of Middleborough and Karen and her husband Eric Reilly of Marlborough, adoring grandchildren; Alyssa and Rebecca Purdy, Connor Reilly and Jamie and Allison Ekstrom, surrogate daughter; Charlene Gibson and Frank's family; son Tim and his wife Lorraine. Grand children Timmy, Laureen, Great Granddaughter Stephanie and many, many, many close friends.
Her Memorial Service will be celebrated in the First Baptist Church, 29 Oakland Street, Medford on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
