Obituary

Joseph M. Falzone passed away peacefully on April 4, 2016 at Cambridge Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 92 years old.

Joseph served in WWII as a Corporal at Westover Field. He was well loved and known by many in his community. Better known as Joe the “One Man Band” who played in numerous parades in East Boston while working at Suffolk Downs in Revere. He was a musician and comedian on the side and made many laugh as he performed at local venues. In more recent years Joe wrote the words and music of the “Ode to the Commonwealth” which Massachusetts adopted on November 16, 2000 as the official Ode of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This was one of Joe’s most prized accomplishments.

Joe was the beloved husband of 62 years to the late Helen (Malerba) Falzone. He was the dear father of Joanne Melton and her husband Brian of Evansville, IN. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will always carry his memory in their hearts.

The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main Street, Malden on Friday April 8th at 10:30a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church 600 Pleasant Street, Malden at 11:30a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8p.m.

Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
