WEBSTER – William F. Gibbons, 58, of 608 Beacon Park, died Saturday, July 2, surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife, Sheila M. (McDonald) Gibbons; a daughter, Lindy of Hoboken, NJ; a brother-in-law, Brian McDonald and his wife Carole of Webster; a nephew and godson, Kevin McDonald and his wife Lindsay of North Grafton; and a niece, Erin Dorazio and her husband Dean of Grafton.
He was born in Clinton, the son of the late Thomas J. and Maude L. (Gable) Gibbons. He lived in Sterling, Leominster, and Worcester before moving here. He earned Master’s level degrees from Assumption College, Fitchburg State College, and a CAGS from Anna Maria College.
Mr. Gibbons was the psychologist at Leominster High School for 27 years. He was also a psychologist and therapist for Matson Community Services and Community Healthlink, both of Fitchburg. He taught many graduate courses at both Anna Maria College and Fitchburg State College. He was devoted to the special needs population.
The loves of his life were his family, friends and faith in this world and the next. He loved music and his daughter’s ability to dance, in addition to enjoying her college varsity lacrosse career on a nationally ranked team. Music was central to his life, with John Lennon and Elvis Presley being his personal favorites. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and traveling to Las Vegas with his wife and more recently having his daughter Lindy accompany them. When in Las Vegas, Cleopatra’s Barge was a favorite destination. In this area, regular visits to the Old Timer in Clinton, Waterfront Mary’s and the Colonial Restaurant & Pub were favorite events.
He was a member Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. He was a former member of the Clinton Knights of Columbus and the Leominster Lodge of Elks. He was a devoted Red Sox fan and over the past few years attempted to get to Fenway Park at least once a year.
Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 7:30 PM Tuesday, July 5, at the Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street. A memorial service will take place at 7:30 that evening in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VNA Hospice Care Program, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608 or to the William Gibbons Scholarship at Leominster High School, 122 Granite Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
