Ciro Mazzola died on March 29th at the Catholic Hospice of Ft. Lauderdale at the age of 98. Raised in East Boston, Ciro served in the Army during World War II. Upon his return from the service he worked for the US Post Office, becoming Post Master of East Boston. He played the violin and mandolin and also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. A Medford resident for 60 years, he would have been married 75 to his beloved Mary this July.
The beloved husband of Mary (Milano) Mazzola, he was a devoted father to Mary Ann Smoot-DiGregorio and her husband Salvatore J. DiGregorio of Boxford and the late Ciro V. Mazzola. A loving grandfather to Christina Marie Smoot-McMillan and her husband Curtis, Donald Ciro Smoot and Madeline Elizabeth Smoot, he was the loving great-grandfather of Ciro Joseph McMillan. He was the brother of Joseph Mazzola, Lucille Barengo the late Philip Mazzola and also leaves many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
