Obituary

Prodromou, Loucas of Wellesley, MA and formerly of South Portland, ME, passed away on April 1, surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with cancer.  Born in 1928 in the village of Aradippou, Cyprus, Loucas immigrated to the United Kingdom in 1951 and the United States in 1954, settling in Maine with his beloved wife of 59 years, Thalia (Zaimes) Prodromou, who pre-deceased him in January of this year.  He was a successful entrepreneur who, together with his wife, built a thriving pizza and grocery business and, later, a small real estate business.  He was deeply committed to civic causes as a longtime member of the Lions Club, where he served as King Lion.  He was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Masons, the Kora Temple Shriners, and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).  He was a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland, for more than five decades, and served many of those years as a member of the parish counsel.  His church, place of business, and home served as backdrops for nurturing his loving family. He was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox, an avid gardener and nature-lover, and a prolific story-teller, entertaining his family and his hundreds of friends and former customers on holidays and during visits to the market or raising funds for causes in South Portland during his retirement.  He moved to Wellesley in 2009 to be closer to his devoted family.

He is survived by daughter Elizabeth H. Kyrou and her husband Alexandros of Bedford, MA, son Peter L. Prodromou and his wife Margaret of Winchester, MA., daughter Elaine C. Mavrommatis and her husband Constantinos of Winchester, MA, daughter Maria P. Delaney and her husband David of Wellesley, MA, and grandchildren Alec and Loucas Prodromou, Sophia Kyrou, Andreas Mavrommatis, and Luke and Evangelina Delaney, and several nieces and nephews in the US, UK and Cyprus. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Michael and Zachary, and sister Penelope.

Funeral Service will be in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown St., Weston, Mass., Tuesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visitation prior to service from 9:30-11 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, Mass. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Loucas to: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave. Boston, MA 02215.
